fuckyeahportgasdace:

for those of you who don’t know, well, anything about me (which is most of you) my other big fandom is DC comics/Batfamily, and Dick Grayson (the first Robin then Nightwing then Batman and now Nightwing again) is basically Ace’s counterpart over there in my affections.  currently, they’ve given him his Nightwing persona/title back, and I should be happy about this since it’s what I’ve wanted, but…

somehow, I’m not.

seems like every couple of decades, DC goes through some kind of upheaval, collapses in on itself like a dying star, then explodes outward, destroying what came before and starting over again.  kind of like Wapol, actually, but not as cool and much more evil.  right now, DC is having one of their ‘every few decades’ wild hairs.  last time that happened?  Jay Todd (Robin II) died and destroyed my twelve year old world.

sure, they brought him back, but they fucked up his characterization so much it wasn’t even funny.  and now they’re rebooting again, destroying the essential characters I’ve loved for decades and creating something I don’t think I even want to be a part of.

I won’t bother touching on what they’ve done to Babs Gordon (Batgirl I), but I will say Steph Brown (Batgirl III) is my best beloved.  her Batgirl was the best title DC had going for it *because* of Steph, but does she have a place in DCU-nu?  nope.

last year, Oda Eiichiro killed Ace and yet again destroyed my soul.  I still think he’s one of the greatest storytellers alive and I’ll never stop reading One Piece.

DC brought Jay back.  they brought Bruce back.  but in the process they killed both of them, characterwise.  and now they’re basically doing the same thing to half the DCU.  and I’ve stopped buying DC comics.

seems to me, DC needs to take a long, hard look at what they’re doing; that and take a page out of Oda’s book.  because if Oda can kill Ace and still make me think he’s god while DC gives Jay and Dick their own books and I can’t stand them, they are doing something really, really wrong.
