It’s so weird seeing these gifs because when you actually watch the show they do it so gradually that you barely even notice (at least I didn’t) but then you look at these and it’s like, whoaa. Even Winry has a completely different face, it’s not just Ed getting taller and more muscular.

Animation, you’re doing it right.

This is actually one of the things I love most about FMA. They age so gradually, just like real people. A lot of times in anime and other animation, there’s not really a slow process of growing up; it’s just sort of, “Hey, look, she has curves now, and he’s way taller.”

In the West, plot is commonly thought to revolve around conflict: a confrontation between two or more elements, in which one ultimately dominates the other. The standard three- and five-act plot structures—which permeate Western media—have conflict written into their very foundations. A “problem” appears near the end of the first act; and, in the second act, the conflict generated by this problem takes center stage. Conflict is used to create reader involvement even by many post-modern writers, whose work otherwise defies traditional structure.

The necessity of conflict is preached as a kind of dogma by contemporary writers’ workshops and Internet “guides” to writing. A plot without conflict is considered dull; some even go so far as to call it impossible. This has influenced not only fiction, but writing in general—arguably even philosophy. Yet, is there any truth to this belief? Does plot necessarily hinge on conflict? No. Such claims are a product of the West’s insularity. For countless centuries, Chinese and Japanese writers have used a plot structure that does not have conflict “built in”, so to speak. Rather, it relies on exposition and contrast to generate interest. This structure is known as kishōtenketsu.

WARNING: Since I’m tagging this as ‘bromance’ and I don’t myself like tagging hate (though I don’t really see this as hate?) most of this is going under the cut, and the good/neutral things I have to say about the issue are above it.

Bromance is a portmanteau of the colloquial term ‘bro’ and ‘romance’ and is commonly used to denote a particularly strong friendship between two males.

Ignoring context, there really isn’t anything wrong with the meaning of the word itself. Anyone regardless of gender identity should feel safe to express emotion or attachment to anyone else without fear of retribution for failing to conform to rigid gender roles. But language doesn’t exist in a vacuum – it is informed by the social constructs of the culture it derives from and its use can enforce cultural norms (like, oh, heteronormativity) in a positive feedback loop between language and culture.

i don’t enjoy writing, really. it’s a bad habit i can’t quit.

it blows my mind the way so many fan writers assume that mcu!Bucky Barnes, post cosmic cube, would turn himself over to SHIELD and Fury. in comics, the reason he went to Fury was because he knew him back in the day, he fought next to him, blew shit up with him, and trusted him to a certain extent; and, Steve and Natasha aside, Fury was all that was left of his old life. in any case, he didn’t go to SHIELD. he went to Fury and Fury was no longer director of SHIELD, was off fighting his private war, remember?

in the mcu, Bucky doesn’t have any kind of relationship with Fury. he doesn’t know him at all, and so has no reason to trust him. and yet, he’s supposed to just… turn himself in. to an organization not even Steve trusts.

see, this is what happens when you erase a character’s entire backstory. they are no longer that character.
